Portugal, Friendship & The Joy Of Music
I just spent the most rejuvenating three days in Lisboa; I feel like I have been away much longer, which is an amazing feeling to come home with.
Something about Portugal makes me feel so light-hearted and chilled. Maybe it is the proximity to the ocean; I hadn't been in the ocean for almost a year, and I felt instantly rejuvenated when I came out of the water. I spent my first day strolling around Lisboa, slowly making my way to Costa Da Caparica, where my friend Alice lives with her husband and their son. I am not a city gal anymore, but I really like Lisboa. I had a delicious brunch at Pacha Brunch before jumping on the ferry at Cais do Sodré. I highly recommend stopping at Pacha Brunch if you are in Lisboa: it's a Peruvian restaurant that specialises in Brunch; they do a bottomless brunch on weekends, which I didn't get to try because I was travelling during the week.
The next day, Alice and I went to the beach; the waves were massive because of a swell: I just went in and played around, wave diving like a kiddo. It was amazing. My friend Alice –who I came to visit– joined in the fun, and we jumped around some more. It was so nice to see her and her family again. After a lovely lunch, we headed to Lisboa to see Fat Freddy's Drop, who are currently on tour celebrating the 21st anniversary of their Based On A True Story album. I bought the tickets a year ago when they came on sale, intending to invite someone to come with me. I discovered Fat Freddy's music over a decade ago, and I had wanted to see them live for a long time. I was not disappointed –not that I thought I would be. I hadn't been to a gig in a while (too long, actually); I had so much fun! They are such a fun crew to see live. My only regret was buying seats (something I never do), and even though we got to dance regardless, I was a bit frustrated not to be in the standing section. Next time.
I ended my trip with a day of adventuring up the coast of Lisboa on my own, taking the train to Cascais because Alice had told me it was a nice fishing town. After cooling down in the ocean when I got there, I took a stroll into town; it is worth the visit, but the beach was too busy for me, so I took the train back down to Caïxas to spend the rest of the afternoon soaking up the sun and swimming in the ocean one last time. I have been to Lisboa a few times, but I had never explored the surrounding areas; the coastline boasts beautiful spots/beaches just a train ride from the city's hectic buzz. It was so worth it. I love travelling so much. The perfect little trip before the colder autumn and winter season. I got my sunshine, ocean, and party fix :D.
